KATHMANDU, Nov 14: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has said that his visit to the Seoul AI Smart City Centre in South Korea has reinvigorated his commitment to advancing the AI sector in Nepal.
Following a tour of the facility operated by the Seoul AI Foundation, the minister remarked that artificial intelligence could play a transformative role in steering Nepal toward prosperity through advancements in information technology.

He noted that the visit had provided him with renewed energy and motivation to strengthen Nepal’s AI initiatives. The Nepali delegation, led by Minister Kharel, observed the AI City, AI Centre, and several innovative projects being developed there.
Reflecting on his experience at the centre, Minister Kharel said, “The experience at Korea's AI Smart City Centre has enriched my knowledge and understanding, which will be instrumental in developing the AI Centre in Nepal.”
During the trip, he also held discussions with local officials and experts on the potential, benefits, and future of AI technology. The forum was co-organized by Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA). Kharel described the Leadership Forum as highly valuable for shaping Digital Nepal and supporting the country's broader digital transformation goals.
Minister Kharel traveled to South Korea on November 11 to attend the 11th Global ICT Leadership Forum held in Seoul, leading the Nepali delegation.
