Adhikari’s candidacy was proposed by CPN-UML parliamentarian Krishna Bhakta Pokharel while chief whip of Nepali Congress Chinkaji Shrestha seconded the proposal.
The Council of Ministers had nominated Adhikari, a senior advocate, in parliament.

The meeting of the committee was called twice on Tuesday to settle the matter. In the first meeting, Ram Narayan Bidari and Loknath Dhakal were fielded as candidates by their respective political parties.
But the first meeting of the committee was halted for a while to let a consensus candidate emerge.
They had underscored the selection of the candidate for the committee’s chairperson on merit basis, warning that if this criteria was not observed, any fringe parties could field their candidates.
Later, the committee’s meeting took place after its members agreed to unanimously elect Adhikari as chair.
In addition, the meeting also formed an 11-member sub-committee with committee’s member Ram Narayan Bidari as coordinator to prepare a draft manual within 10 days.
The members of the sub-committee comprise Navindra Raj Joshi, Min Bahadur Biswakarma, Rewatiraman Bhandari, Krishnabhakta Pokharel, Prem Bahadur Singh, Kunti Shahi, Atahar Kamal Musalman, Aindrasundar Nemwang, Yogendra Chaudhary and Lokmani Dhakal. RSS
