“Significant amount of rainfall was recorded across the country starting from Sunday evening and it may continue for a couple of days,” said Rajendra Shrestha, Senior Meteorologist, Meteorological Forecasting Division.[break]
According to the weathermen, the low pressure zone in atmosphere is in Nepal and bordering regions of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that favored the condition for rainfall in this part of the region. Monsoon enters Nepal on second week of June and withdraws on third week of September at normal.
Last three months recorded less than normal rainfall which the weathermen have termed as the weak due to feeble monsoon phenomena in the country.
"Rainfall is quite good this month but not in all parts of the country. Kathmandu has already received double the normal rainfall for the month of September,” added Shrestha.
Normal rainfall for the month of September for Kathmandu is 199.8 mm but valley has already received 442.3 mm of rainfall. On 13th September the valley recorded 126 mm of rainfall, the highest for 24-hour period for the month of September since records began.
“Normally monsoon withdraws on 23 September, it is unlikely that it will happen this year, there is possibility of one week delay for withdraw,” said Shrestha.
