KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has urged media outlets to report on the March 5 House of Representatives election in a fair and impartial manner.
Speaking to journalists at Janak Shiksha Samagri Center Limited in Sanothimi, he urged all to avoid any bias for or against candidates.
Code of conduct aims to assist political parties in elections:...
He requested that news and opinions not be presented in a way that could influence voters toward one candidate or party, and that reporting remain objective and factual.
With the country in a highly election-focused environment and the polls entering their final stages, Bhandari emphasized that even when expressing opinions, the media should refrain from taking sides.
“While everyone is entitled to their own ideas, they should not favor or oppose any party, individual, or candidate. I urge that all news be conveyed strictly based on facts,” he said.
He added that complaints of election code violations are being investigated and acted upon, and monitoring is ongoing across various levels to ensure compliance.
The EC is actively overseeing adherence to the code while preparations for the election continue at a rapid pace, Bhandari said.
