Yadav is facing attempted murder charge for his involvement in the attack on Giri on Morang District Court premises a few weeks ago. A police report says he murdered sub-inspector Naresh Jung Karki of Buddhanagar Area Police Office four years ago. [break]
The police report says Karki was murdered by seven people including Yadav. Police prepared the report after the murder, but have not charged any of those involved so far. The police report points at the involvement of Munna Sah, Shrawan Sah, Kattik Sah, Dinesh Yadav, Ranjit Sah, and Umesh Yadav as well in the murder.
The group had murdered Karki while he was in duty and also looted two rifles, 165 bullets, a Chinese-made pistol and its bullets. The murder took place during the time of Madhes movement in 2007.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipak Thapa of Morang District Police Office said police have not acted on the report as there has been no instruction from the higher authorities.
“The looted weapons have not been returned so far, and cases have not been lodged against them,” he said, adding, “We will take the case to its conclusion. Yadav is already facing attempted murder charges. The Karki murder case will also be settled.”
Police lodged an attempted murder complaint against Yadav for the June 1 attack on Giri after the former was discharged from Birat Nursing Home following treatment for the injuries he sustained in the course of mounting the attack.
Another assailant, Mukesh Budathoki, is being treated at the same nursing home under police supervision. Budathoki will be released within five days and will also be charged for attempted murder, DSP Thapa said.
The attack´s mastermind Parshuram Basnet is, however, absconding.
Following the attack, Giri and his wife filed attempted murder complaints against over three dozen people. Then DSP Sahakul Thapa had initially dismissed the complaints. But police eventually accepted the complaints following widespread pressure.
Four days after the attack in the court, Republica correspondent Khilanath Dhakal was attacked by a group led by Basnet for writing news reports about the court attack.
