KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Police have seized 720 packets of cigarettes and 69 pouches of tobacco products that were allegedly being taken out of the country illegally through Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Airport Security Office said the items were found during an investigation after security personnel became suspicious while screening passengers’ baggage through an X-ray machine at the departure terminal.

According to Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Silwal, police seized 72 bundles containing 720 packets of Shikhar, Surya, Captain, Pilot and Khukuri brand cigarettes, along with 69 pouches of Jeet, Super Power, Bhola, Meghashree and Current brand tobacco products.
The seized cigarettes, tobacco products and other items have been handed over to the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office in Gauchar for necessary legal action.
Silwal said regular and intensive security checks would be continued to strengthen airport security and control the illegal transportation and export of goods.
