Police had filed a case against 17 persons, including Basnet, on the charge of attacking the murder accused Abhishek Giri. They had allegedly attacked Giri, who is undergoing trial on the charge of killing his former business partner Karan Yadav, on June 1 while being escorted by police into the court for hearing over his case.
Of the 17 accused in the court attack case, 14, including Basnet, are still absconding while one Manoj Singh Rai has already been sent into judicial custody for attacking this correspondent on June 9 for covering the court attack incident.
Earlier, the court had issued a 70-days warrant against Basnet. The court again issued the warrant after the police failed to nab the prime accused involved in planning the attack in the court premises and on this scribe.
Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has welcomed the court´s decision. “The court´s decision is fair and in accordance with the principals of the rule of law and independent judiciary,” the NBA Morang president Debendra Koirala said.
Morang police chief SP Pradhumna Karki, who was publicly threatened by Youth Association Nepal (YAN) chairman Mahesh Basnet to drop the charges against Parshuram, has lauded the court´s verdict, saying: “This has boosted my morale and confidence. This has also reestablished the truth that culprits can never walk scot-free despite all their conspiracies,” Karki told Republica.
SP Karki also said that a special team of police has been mobilized to nab Parshuram and his accomplices. He hoped the team would arrest them ´soon´.
