663 houses in Tanahun at risk of being swept away by flood

TANAHUN, August 25: As many as 663 houses at Patan in Byas Municipality-5 in Tanahun district have been exposed to risks of being swept away by the local Madi river.

TANAHUN, August 25: As many as 663 houses at Patan in Byas Municipality-5 in Tanahun district have been exposed to risks of being swept away by the local Madi river. 


The river has eroded the riverbanks and started advancing towards the settlements, said local people. Physical infrastructures belonging to a dozen organizations are also at risk of being swept away.

As a result, the local people are forced to spend sleepless nights. "We do not know when the flooded river enters and submerges the village. We are living in constant fear," said a local resident. 


The Mayor of Byas Municipality Baikuntha Neupane has assured local people that he would leave no stone unturned to control the river, said Tej Bahadur Nepali, Secretary of the Village Development Organization.
