KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The number of smart driving licenses remaining to be printed at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has reached nearly 2.8 million. The DoTM under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) holds the authority to print smart licenses.
The DoTM currently has only one printing machine to print licenses and can print about 4000 licenses daily.
Over 240,000 smart driving licenses printed
The DoTM is considering purchasing another machine as the thousands of new licenses need to be printed daily, which would delay printing 2.8 million licenses with a single machine. Although there is provision in the budget, the process of purchasing a new machine has not yet progressed.
On the other hand, since the provincial governments have the constitutional authority, they are preparing to print the licenses. Although the provincial government has started printing, the DoTM is preparing to print the remaining licenses itself.
Koshi Province is currently printing licenses with QR codes. Bagmati Province has started printing them digitally as well, while Gandaki Province has also prepared to print them.
The government has now recognized the digital license shown on the Citizen App as valid. Along with the license, fines for traffic violations can also be paid through the Nagarik app. The DoTM has also been printing essential cards on a daily basis.
