The body of Sonaki Gohit, 60, of Chikna Tole in Nirdana Village Development Committee (VDC), Siraha was found six kilometers downstream on the western bank of the river in Lakkar VDC of Dhanusha Tuesday while that of an unidentified boy was found five kilometers downstream in Hathmunda VDC, Dhanusha.[break]
The boat heading toward Nirdanaghat of Siraha from Hathmunda of Dhanusha with 35 passengers on board, according to Boatman Srilal Mukhiya, had overturned near its destination Tuesday evening after water entered the boat. Most of the passengers were laborers and returning home after work.
Chief of Siraha Police Bikash Shrestha said 11 persons had swum to safety with seven persons coming into the contact of Siraha Police and four with Dhanusha Police Tuesday night.
Ram Sagar Mukhiya, 32, Maruni Devi Mukhiya, 30, Manoj Kumar Mukhiya, six, and Ravi Kumari Mukhiya, two, of Juthakiya-4, Dhanusha, Bilash Das, 60, of Belhi-9, Dhanusha, and Ramo Devi Yadav, 32, of Nirjana had swum toward the eastern bank in Siraha.
Likewise Geeta Devi Yadav, 40, and Dintaniya Devi Yadva, also 40, of Chikna Tole, Bathani Devi Yadav, 32, and Gorkhi Devi Yadav, 40, of Sarabe, Dhanusha had swum west toward Dhanusha.
Four rescue teams of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) have failed to find 23 others due to the raging flood in the river. Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrestha said the rescue teams at Chikna Tole, Bhediya, Nirjana and Lakkar are waiting for the water level to recede.
