'The Kashmir Files' is making record breaking business at the box office. The film crossed Rs 140 crore mark in 9 days. But the film has also had its share of controversies. Recently, social media was abuzz with conversations about the film being passed by the CBFC without any cuts and Vivek Agnihotri himself being a part of the Board. TMC spokesperson, Saket Gokhale had shared a post on Instagram and wrote, "The pain of Kashmiri Pandits has been shamelessly used to spread hate, create polarization, & make crores - only to further the BJP’s agenda."

Responding to the allegations, the filmmaker has called it 'fake news'. He took to Twitter and shared a screenshot of an earlier news report that mentions the film getting an 'A' certificate by CBFC with seven cuts. "Please stop spreading fake news, like always. Take a little break. At least to respect the dead." [sic] he wrote.

Before the release of his film, Vivek Agnihotri had deactivated his Twitter account and claimed that he had been receiving death threats. On February 19, he had put out a message on his Instagram account saying that he had deactivated his Twitter handle. Explaining the reason behind it, he claimed in an open letter that he was receiving death threats that were “mentally challenging”.

'The Kashmir Files' has been declared tax-free in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Goa, Haryana, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand.
