NAWALPARASI, Oct 21: CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has said that the party will simultaneously move forward with both the agenda of election preparations and the restoration of parliament.

Speaking at a cadre meeting in Sunwal on Saturday, Gyawali accused the current government of failing to create a conducive environment for holding the elections announced for March 5. He also emphasized that UML has not abandoned the agenda of reinstating parliament.

Gyawali noted that restoring the dissolved parliament is necessary to address the concerns raised by the Gen Z youth movement. He also pointed out growing security challenges for the elections, citing stolen weapons from security forces during the September 8 and 9 protests and more than 5,000 escaped prisoners still remaining at large.

Gyawali stressed the need for political understanding to move the country forward. According to him, an impartial investigation into the incidents of the Gen Z protest, restoration of parliament and timely elections would be the appropriate way ahead.

Gyawali further stated that since the party’s general convention has already been scheduled, the matter of leadership will now be decided through that process.
