KATHMANDU, Oct 11: CPN-UML secretariat meeting scheduled for today has been postponed after party chairman KP Sharma Oli taken ill. According to the party’s secretariat, the meeting has been rescheduled for 11 AM on Sunday..
The meeting was scheduled to continue today following a six-and-a-half-hour session on Friday.
A close aide to Oli told Republica “Oli’s condition is nothing to worry about and that he is resting due to fatigue from continuous meetings over the past few days.”
Oli’s health has been a recurring issue in recent years. He has undergone two kidney transplants, the first in India in 2007 and the second at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu in 2020. He has also been hospitalized multiple times due to complications related to his kidneys, respiratory infections, and other ailments.
On Friday’s meeting, extensive discussions among top UML leaders were held where the majority of the leaders of the party secretary had signaled that Oli should make way for new leadership. However, no other leaders except Vice President Asta Laxmi Shakya openly demanded Oli’s resignation.
Oli was forced to step down on September 9, following a massive Gen Z demonstration.
