KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will operate for 16 hours daily today onwards. The airport has extended its hours after completing 60 percent of the construction work near the runway as part of its infrastructure expansion.
Previously closed for 10 hours a day, the airport will now remain open from 7 am to 11 pm. Gyanendra Bhul, information officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, confirmed that the airport is continuing expansion work, including parallel taxiways on the south-western side.
The airport expects to come into full operation by March 31, 2025. The expansion project, which has cost Rs 15 billion, is expected to push the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 1.25 million.
