NEPALGUNJ, April 15: Normal life in Nepalgunj – known as Nepal's hottest city – has been put off gear due to the sweltering heat compounded by heat wave.

According to the Nepalgunj based Meteorological Forecasting Department, temperature in Nepalgunj shot up above 40 degrees Celsius whereas officials declined to rule out high chances of mercury rising even more.

The city which borders India has not seen rainfall since the onset of the summer season. The commoners are faced with scorching sun and unrelenting heat wave.

The employees attending the government and non government offices have markedly thinned, but the market is seeing a boom in sales of cold drinks and seasonal fruits. The city dwellers are taking to cucumber, watermelon, Lassi drink, ice creams and ice lollies.

The number of patients at hospitals has also increased with patients reporting communicable diseases including typhoid, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea and other illnesses resulting from heat, according to doctors.

The Electricity Authority here has also taken out a new power outage schedule with 9 hours of daily load shedding as the consumption of energy has increased with the heat. RSS
