Saipal, Ace in semifinal
KATHMANDU: Saipal Academy and Ace Institute of Management on Friday fixed the semifinal spot in the mens´ 3X3 Basketball of First Saipal A Level Meet as group winners. Saipal topped group B with the win against Xavier International10-7, National Campus 6-2 and Modern Indian 10-9. Ace overcame Chelsea 9-4, AJW College 11-3, Kathmandu Academy 17-9 and GEMS 10-9. Saipal will meet GEMS in first semifinal while Ace will face Modern Indian.
Opel, innovative start with a win
KATHMANDU: Opel and Innovative School started the Second Valley-wide Inter School Basketball Tournament with win on Friday. Opel thrashed Deneb 33-15 in the innagural match of the tournament while Innovative defeated Canvas 51-31. in the other matches, Galaxy, Wilson Academy and Nava Jyoti register wins. Galaxy overcame Canvas 26-12, Wilson routed Angel Lord 50-31 abd Nava Jyoti thrashed Gyan Mala 21-8. In a six day tournament 16 teams are participating.
Jaykar tennis kicks off Saturday
KATHMANDU: The 10th edition of Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament will kick off on Saturday at the Satdobato Tennis Complex, Lalitpur. The tournament will be held under 9 to 16 years age categories. The participants will compete in both the singles and doubles categories. The total cash prize of the tournament is Rs 250,000. The tournament will be played in knockout format. Altogether 177 players will participate in the eight-day tournament .
Judo, wushu players selected
KATHMANDU: Three judo players undergoing Mission SAG training have been selected directly for the regional selection round of the upcoming Sixth National Games while other 14 players of Kathmandu made it through the district selection rounds on Friday after securing first positions in their respective weight categories. Saroj Maharjan (+60 kg), Ramesh Magar (+66 kg) and Deepak Krishna Shrestha (+73 kg) have been selected directly for the regional selection. Other players who were selected from Kathmandu are Sanju Rai, Nabina Lama, Sunita Magar, Pramila Rokka and Kamala Danuwar in the women´s section.
Likewise, Pawan Ranamager, Upendra Thapa, Anil Tamang, Sanjay Ghising, Bigyan Rayamajhi, Ajay Khadgi, and Sagun Maharjan were selected in the men´s section. Meanwhile, Narendra Dangol and Devendra Karmacharya were selected in men´s kata. In wushu, 14 players -- 10 men and four women -- made it to the regional selection from Kathmandu. Those selected are Oshin Rai, Ashmita KC, Binita Maharjan and Srijana Tamang in the women´s section and Hemanta Maharjan, Bijay Sinjali, Raju Maharjan, Prithvi Pakhrin, Bivek Shrestha, Binod Magar, Bishnuhari Phuyal, Ramkrishna Lama and Puroshattam Rijal in the men´s section.
Sano Gaucharan beats Kumari
KATHMANDU: Sano Guacharan Youth Club defeated Kumari Club 1-0 Friday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League. Ranjit Lama scored the lone goal of the match in the 77th minute. The win gave Sano Gaucharan the valuable three points to move above of relegation zone. With the win, Sano Gaucharan has seven points from nine matches and 12th position on the league table. Kumari has five points from nine matches and falls down to the 14th position in the tournament participated by 15 teams.
Meanwhile, the match between Tusal Youth Club and Star Club played at the Nepal Police Training Center, Maharajgunj ended in a 1-1 draw. Shyam Babu Kachhyapati gave a lead to Tusal in the 19th minute but Nirmal Dura levelled the score a minute later. Despite the draw, Star remained at the top of the table with 20 points from 10 matches while Tusal has the seventh position with 15 points from 10 matches. Birgunj is in the second place with 18 points from eight matches.
