BARA, Feb 29: The District Police Office (DPO) of Bara has arrested two persons, including a school principal, for selling fake appointment letters to people aspiring to land a teaching job at government school in the district.

The police arrested Upendra Shah Teli, principal of Nepal Rastriya Primary School, and his assistant, Dev Narayan Chudhary, for forging appointment letters that are issued to teachers hired under relief quota.

They collect money from aspiring teachers and hand them fake appointment letters with forged signature of the district education officer and a stamp of the District Education Office.

Mukti Narayan Chaudhary of Kolhabi Municipality had paid Rs 90,000 to Dev Narayan to get the job of relief quota teachers for his family members: Bhagwati Chaudhary, Jitendra Chaudhary and Urmila Chaudhary.

Mukti Narayan said he was unaware that the appointment letters were forged as they contained a stamp of the district education office and signature of the DEO.

The fake appointment letters was issued in the name of Bhagwati Chaudhary as a relief quota teacher for Pathara-based Shree Nepal Rastriya Primary School and Jitendra Chaudhry for Parsauna-based Shree Janata High School.

Upon learning that the appointment letters were forged, Mukti Narayan filed a complaint with the police against Dev Narayan. The police then took Dev Narayan under control for investigation.

The DPO learnt from Dev Narayan that Nepal Rastriya's Principal Upendra Shah Teli was leading the racket engaged in the forgery.

“I'm not aware of the case and I don't know if staffers of the district education office were involved. We urge schools to report to us if they come across forged appointment letters,” said District Education Officer Dhan Prashad Pokhrel.
