KATHMANDU, March 18: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation not to allow the committee it formed on November 17 to carry out its duties immediately.

Justices Sharanga Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the interim order, stopping the committee from investigating the outstanding electricity dues of consumers using dedicated feeders and trunk lines.

The ministry formed a three-member investigation committee under the coordination of former National Planning Commission member Arvind Kumar Mishra.

Advocate Khadananda Kandel challenged the decision, filing a writ petition at the SC and arguing that the committee's formation was illegal.

The government tasked the committee with verifying the bills that the Nepal Electricity Authority issued to industries using dedicated and trunk line facilities without paying their dues.
