KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Nepali rupee gained 59 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, came down by Rs 430 per 10 grams this week.CURRENCY
Rupee gained 59 paisa to close at 102.34 against US dollar on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 102.93.
The local unit gained 1 paisa on Monday to settle at 102.92 against US dollar. On Tuesday, rupee gained another 28 paisa against the greenback to close at 102.64. Rupee appreciated by further 25 paisa to settle at 102.39 against US dollar on Wednesday. The local currency, however, lost 2 paisa against US dollar on Thursday to 102.41. Rupee gained 7 paisa on Friday to close the week's trading at 102.34 against dollar.
Meanwhile, rupee gained Rs 1.46 against euro and Rs 39 paisa against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 111.50 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 159.81.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 430 per 10 grams over the week after the yellow metal went on a freefall in international bullion market. Trading opened Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 41,155 per 10 grams.
On Monday, gold price came down by Rs 175 per 10 grams to Rs 40,980. Price of gold dropped further by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 40,725. The yellow metal remained stable in the remaining days of the week to close the week's trading at Rs 40,725 per 10 grams on Friday.
In the similar manner, price of silver came down by Rs 4 per 10 grams over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 566 per 10 grams on Friday.
