Former Prime Minister Thapa passed away on Wednesday night at the Medanta Hospital, India. He was 88.
"I am shocked by the news of Thapa's passing. At this hour of grief, I pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul and pay my heartfelt tributes and condolences to the bereaved family and their relatives," the Prime Minister stated in a condolence statement he issued on Thursday.
PM Koirala stated that the closeness to seasoned politicians like the late Thapa had inspired all towards formulating a democratic constitution at a situation when the country is in the sensitive phase of drafting a new constitution.
"In his demise, we will feel the absence of the participation and mature suggestion of an experienced politician like Thapa in the coming days while formulating a constitution institutionalizing the democracy with federalism, republicanism and inclusion achieved as a result of the struggles waged by the Nepali people since a century back for establishing a democratic rule and development," PM Koirala stated.
The country's politics has lost an ambitious, courageous, determined, conscientious and liberal leader who happily accepted change in Thapa's demise, PM Koirala stated, adding that while the RPP has lost an adept organizer, an influential leader and the founding guardian.
The Prime Minister further stated – "I urge all the political parties to be united at this hour of grief and fulfill the historic responsibility of framing a democratic constitution being inspired by the late Thapa's good qualities. It is my belief that true tributes to him would be to draft a democratic constitution that makes the future of Nepal and Nepalis secure and bright."
PM Koirala has also prayed to the almighty to give the power of fortitude to the members of the bereaved family and all leaders and cadres of RPP at this hour of grief. RSS
