Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), among others, have decided to write ´notes of dissent´ in the proposal on Sunday.
TMDP Joint General Secretary Jitendra Sonar said that they are filing a ´note of dissent´ as the provision violates people´s rights to property.
“While we advocate for people´s rights to property on the one hand, the provision allows the government to acquire land exceeding a certain ceiling without compensation,” said Sonar. “The new provision in the committee´s proposal goes against the people´s rights to own property.”
Sonar also alleged that it was a part of conspiracy to seize the land in Madhes in the name of revolutionary land reforms program. “We will not let that happen,” he added. He informed that NC, UML, TMDP, MPRF (D) and MPRF have already prepared ´notes of dissent´ to this effect and they will register them on Sunday.
NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire, who is also a member of the committee, said the Maoists had gone for voting even as the members in the committee had demanded further discussion on the issue. “The members should have been told beforehand that voting is being held to finalize the issue,” he said. “This is height of deception on the part of Maoists.”
Ghimire said that only 18 of the total 43 members in the committee are in favor of such a provision. Maoists had decided to go for a vote on Friday as some representatives of other political parties in the committee were absent.
