UDAYAPUR, Feb 21: An elderly man was killed and 25 others were injured when a bus carrying members of a wedding procession and a truck collided in Joginitol, Udayapur last night. Among the injured, five individuals are in critical condition.
The accident occurred at around 9 pm on Thursday night when a bus (Ba Pra 060-01 Kha 0195) on its way to Gaighat from Bara and a mini truck carrying Bay Leaf, heading towards Katari from the opposite direction collided with each other in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-7 under the Madan Bhandari Highway.
Police said that the accident occurred when the bus carrying 32 passengers and a truck carrying a driver and a co-driver collided with each other on the Joginitol roundabout road in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-7 under the Madan Bhandari Highway.
The 26 injured were rescued by the police and brought to the district hospital for treatment, while four people who were in serious condition were referred to Biratnagar. An elderly person died during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Sita Ram Dhami, 70, of Gadhi Rural Municipality-4, Bara.
The seriously injured are receiving treatment at the Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar. The two other injured are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Udayapur, while 20 others have been discharged after treatment.
Harihar Nath Yogi, Superintendent of Police said that the District Police Office has taken control of the drivers of both the bus and the truck and an investigation has been launched.
