KATHMANDU, Oct 14: Norway and the United Kingdom have congratulated newly-elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. A press statement issued by the Royal Norwegian Embassy on Tuesday stated that the election of a new prime minister and a new government after the promulgation of the constitution is a manifestation of Nepal's commitment to democratic development, peace and prosperity.

It also reads that the government of Norway encourages the new leadership to ensure a peaceful and inclusive implementation of the constitution to secure Nepal's future social and economic development and needed reconstruction efforts. Similarly, the UK Minister of State for Asia Hugo Swire also congratulated Prime Minister Oli.According to a statement released by the British Embassy, Minister Swire pledged to continue to remain a steadfast partner for Nepal in reconstruction works to be carried out in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake.

Meanwhile, Minister of State at the Department for International Development Desmond Swayne has urged the government of Nepal to immediately establish earthquake reconstruction authority as winter is fast approaching and it may lead to another humanitarian crisis. A press statement issued by the British Embassy quoted Minister of State at DFID Swange saying, "I am increasingly concerned that the humanitarian crisis in Nepal is not over. Much needed humanitarian supplies are yet to reach many people still living in temporary shelter.

The National Authority for Reconstruction - the key institution to accelerate reconstruction and help Nepal build back better - is still to be established. Winter is approaching and we need to act fast to avoid a second humanitarian crisis."

According to the statement, the minister also hoped that the current efforts to resolve difficulties affecting the supply and distribution of humanitarian goods in Nepal can be resolved as quickly as possible.
