Nepali workers provided awareness on safe employment in UAE

Nepali workers from various companies in the UAE took part in the awareness programme organized at the Embassy. A labour attache at the Embassy, Pankaj Lamichhane, gave a presentation on how the workers could exercise their rights and empower themselves for safety.

KATHMANDU, May 10: In view of risks facing Nepali workers for lack of awareness of local rules and laws, the Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently organized an interaction on labor awareness and safe employment in Abu Dhabi.



Nepali workers from various companies in the UAE took part in the awareness programme organized at the Embassy. A labour attache at the Embassy, Pankaj Lamichhane, gave a presentation on how the workers could exercise their rights and empower themselves for safety.


His presentation features the rules to be abided by while working in the company, precautions needed during works, renewal of labour permit, utilization of the scheme of Social Security Fund and other entitlements awarded by the Nepal government. Lamichhane also reminded the migrant workers to keep their personal documents like passport, Emirates ID and worker's identity card safe and remain vigilant against cybercrimes and financial frauds in the wake of rising digital communications and transactions.

Even the information on search, rescue, management, compensation and labour assistance provided abroad was shared on the occasion. Such facilities were ensured through an online system run by the Department of Consular Services, Nepal.


Third Secretary at the Embassy, Bimalesh Kumar Mishra, shared information on passport and consular services. The workers voiced the need for continuing such awareness programmes in the days ahead. They also spoke on the government's initiative to ensure minimum wages in foreign employment.


Practical information on 'First Aid' was also provided to the migrant workers there.


The awareness event was attended by Nepali Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, and diplomatic employees at the Embassy.
