A team of Ministry of Industry led by project engineer Shiva Kumar Dahal found Bankatti area near Nepalgunj suitable for the project after conducting feasibility study of the area.[break]
“The Banktatti area, which is just 7 km from Nepalgunj, has been found suitable for SEZ as the area has adequate land and infrastructures like telephone service, water and electricity,” Dahal told Republica.
“Uchuwa area in Bankatti VDC can be the ideal place as the area has 35 bighas of public land. This means the government need not spend much on land acquisition.”
More than 150 small and big industries are currently under operation in and around Nepalgunj. Traders in the region too are enthusiastic about operating SEZ in Bankatti area as it would make exports easier.
The government has promised special discounts on tax and excise duty for industries operating in SEZ.
Lalit Kumar Rauniyar, coordinator of SEZ Campaign, said they have been demanding additional budget for land acquisition. “We have demanded the government to allocate Rs 60 million in the upcoming budget for additional land acquisition,” Rauniyar said.
