KATHMANDU, April 8: Nepali Congress (NC) is electing members for its parliamentary executive panel on Friday. Of the 37-member panel, today's election will elect 22 members from the contending 42 lawmakers.

NC lawmakers will elect one member from each of the seven federal provinces and the remaining 15 will be elected as part of the inclusive proportional representation categories. The voting is scheduled to start at 9 am in the morning and close at 12 noon. "We are using electronic voting machine, so the results will be public immediately after the election," said election committee coordinator Ramesh Rijal.

Ongoing factionalism between party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel has been reflected in the nominations. Lawmakers representing either side have been contending for the membership.

Two candidates one each from Deuba and Paudel panel are contending for Madhesi male, Dalit female, Dalit male, Khas Arya male, and Muslim reservation category. Similarly, two candidates one each from the rival factions have registered candidacy for the seven provinces.

Similarly, four lawmakers, two each from the rival faction, are contending for the two seats under Indigenous Ethnic community female and male reservation categories and four lawmakers are contending for two seats under the Khas Arya women category.
