KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Even six months after the major earthquake that hit Nepal, major political parties are still at odds on selecting chief of Reconstruction Authority resulting delay in reconstruction works.

The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) is for giving continuity to head appointed by the erstwhile government and it has been proposing UML to that end.

The Suhsil Koirala-led government had appointed the then chairman of Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Professor Govinda Raj Pokharel as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the High-Powered Reconstruction Authority.

“The government represented by you made the appointment. Let’s move ahead by giving continuity to him,” NC leaders have been telling UML leaders.

But, the ruling UML is for new beginning arguing that the parliament didn’t endorsed the ordinance under which the authority was formed.

“The person for the job should not be selected on the basis of political ideology but, on the basis of working compatibility with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli,” said Law Minister Agni Kharel.
