KAPILVASTU, Oct 23: Life is slowly getting back to normalcy in Krishnanagar, following clashes in the main business hub of Kapilvastu.

The District Administration Office (DAO) had imposed curfew since Sunday following scuffles among the locals during the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga on Friday. On Sunday, curfew was imposed from 5 pm till 8 am the next morning.

As per the tradition, the idols of goddess Durga are immersed in river after the tenth day of Dashain. More than 25 idols were immersed during the curfew hours due to the clash.

As per the agreement between local leaders and District Security Committee, the local administration had allowed the immersion of idols amid tight security.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabi Rawal informed that there have been no incidents of violence after clamping curfew. Though the curfew was lifted during daytime, Krishnanagar remained silent on Monday.

Police had baton-charged the locals and fired teargas shells to control the situation.
