With the task of digging the trench nearly complete now, the whole village is very excited that the acute scarcity of drinking water they had been facing since last year would end soon.Water springs in and around the village began drying up soon after the catastrophic earthquake of April 25.
As women were forced to spend their whole day just in queue for fill drinking water, they sought help from the local organizations to ease the problem.
After it was proposed that water would be brought to the village by installing a pipeline, the locals agreed to contribute free labor for the project.
"The project was executed much faster with the locals' support," said Kalyan Gurung, a local. According to her, Journey Home contributed Rs 800,000 for the project under which four water taps would be installed at different places in the village.
The earthquake caused water sources to dry up in several villages of the district, including Gupsipakha, Barpak, Swara, Ghyachok, Hansapur, Kharibot, Harmi and Thalajung.
According to the local office of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS), several areas in the district face water scarcity.
"Lack of budget has prevented us from addressing the problem. At present, we are doing whatever we can with the available resources. We have providing pipes to those places facing water woes," said Naraya Prashad Acharaya, chief of the local office of the DWSS.
