Land owners reject Railway compensation

BIRATNAGAR, Aug. 10: Landowners of Katahari VDC, Ward No 2 and 3, whose land was occupied for the purpose of Jogbani-Biratnagar railway, have said they would not receive compensation citing devaluation of their land.



The landowners announced this decision by organizing a press conference here. [break]



Landowner Kishor Kumar Majhi voiced complaint that his land was assessed very low saying the railway planning itself was unscientific.



The culture of indigenous nationalities would go on disappearing if the railway league was constructed along the area, he added.



The landowners have demanded that railway route be constructed outside ring road. Some 150 family members of 70 landowners are residing in the wards.
