TAPLEJUNG, March 17: An injured leopard was found in Taplejung's Phungling Municipality-5, Postal Line area, where it died later and was buried after digging a pit.

Parameshwar Paswan, the forest officer at the Division Forest Office in Taplejung, said that dogs chased the animal, which appeared to be a leopard, and brought it to the house of Thakur Singh Kalikote on Sunday evening. The leopard died shortly after.

After the death, a representative from the forest office, along with police and media personnel, completed the formal process and buried the dead leopard.

According to Paswan, the dogs chased the leopard to Kalikote's house around 6:30 pm. Kalikote covered the leopard with a blanket and reported the incident to the district police office. The police team rescued the animal and handed it over to the Division Forest Office, but by the time the office received it, the leopard had already died.

The leopard, which weighed about three kilograms, had injuries in several parts of its body. The forest office suspects that the leopard died due to severe injuries sustained during the fight with the dogs.
