Prolific batsman Shikhar Dawan is injured and was replaced by Murali Vijay.Experienced off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was dropped after a poor performance in the first test with seam-bowling all-rounder Stuart Binny taking his place.
Fast bowler Varun Aaron was also dropped in favor of Umesh Yadav.
Sri Lanka's injured seamer Nuwan Pradeep was replace by fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera who has recovered from injury.
The match is the final test for Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara who has played 133 test matches with 12, 350 runs including 38 centuries and 52 half-centuries.
If he scores a double century in this match he will equal Australia great Donald Bradman who scored 12 double hundreds in just 52 games.
