KATHMANDU, March 29: The government has begun investigating the assets of four former prime ministers and two former ministers, as part of a broader anti-corruption initiative outlined in the “100-Point Agenda” of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, acting on directives from the Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA), has started examining the properties of former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Madhav Kumar Nepal. Investigations are also underway into former ministers Arzu Rana and Deepak Khadka, with Khadka being arrested from Budhanilkantha on Sunday morning.

Police sources added that the probe will extend to close relatives, including Dahal’s daughter and Rana’s brother Bhushan Rana, as well as individuals who may have acted as intermediaries during their tenures.
The government has instructed relevant ministries to assist in the investigation of high-ranking officials and leaders who accumulated significant wealth while in office. The process will be conducted in two phases: the first covering officials from 2006/07 onwards, and the second reviewing assets of officeholders from 1991/92 to 2005/06. Experts from finance, revenue, and investigative sectors will examine documents, analyze findings, and produce conclusions.
If fully implemented, the asset investigation could encompass around 10,000 individuals, including political leaders, party workers, and government employees.
