KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Water flow at the Gandak Barrage along the Nepal-India border has surged amid continuous rainfall, prompting authorities to urge people in downstream areas to remain alert.
The water flow through the barrage was measured at 273,600 cusecs at 9 am Saturday, according to the Gandak Barrage authorities. The water level was recorded at 359.40 feet upstream and 356.80 feet downstream.

A flow of 300,000 cusecs is considered a warning level at the barrage. The current flow is 26,400 cusecs below the threshold.
Meanwhile, the water flow at Devghat on the Nepal side reached 348,000 cusecs on Saturday morning and is still rising. Authorities have warned that the increasing flow at Devghat could push up water levels at the Gandak Barrage and along downstream stretches of the Narayani River.
If the flow from Devghat continues to rise, downstream areas could face further increases in water levels and river flow, raising the risk of flooding.
