Kathayat, one of the senior most politicians hailing from the district, was actively involved in politics post the revolution of 1950/51.
He was appointed the Minister (State) for Agriculture and Supplies in the then Prime Minister Nagendra Prasad Rijal’s cabinet in 1973.
Kathayat, who is known for his contributions in Jumla, is survived by seven sons and seven daughters.
