KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Though just 12-years-old, Supriya Maskey is very confident and poised. Recently crowned the 2nd Little Miss World Nepal, she appears excited about her trip to Turkey for the Little Miss World event.

The seventh grader of Little Angels’ School says that life has changed a lot for her post the win. Idolizing Anuradha Koirala, she wants to be involved in the field of social work in the future.[break]

Were you nervous at all during the Little Miss World Nepal pageant?

No, I wasn’t. I have participated and won the crown of Little Miss Nepal in the Little Mr and Miss Nepal pageant 2007. The 16 days of training that we received during Little Miss World Nepal helped me a lot. In fact, I was confident that I would win. The other participants also thought that I would be the winner and that boosted my confidence a lot. It was also been my dream to participate in this pageant.

So, do you think you will bring home the crown for us this year too?

I don’t know about that. I’m going to Turkey soon for the pageant and we will have to go through five days of training. I hope to know the answer to this then.

What were the most memorable things of the entire competition?

Our choreographers were very friendly with us. We were taught everything from personality development, preparing our speeches to the way we had to walk. It was fun! Many guests like Nima Rumba and Astha B also visited us. Astha B is one of my favorite singers so I was excited to meet her. I remember them telling us that participating is more important than either winning or losing.

Why do you think it’s important to take part in extracurricular activities?

Studies have to be your priority, but extracurricular activities are equally important for us. I take part in spelling contests, art competition and enjoy playing basketball with my friends in school. Being involved in sports and other things at school gives us an opportunity to learn many things.

What is your view on the many children’s beauty pageants that we see today?

Such pageants definitely help the participants. We become more confident and learn many things during the whole experience. So why not participate? But it is clear that such pageants have become very common today. And personally, after participating in the Little Mr and Miss Nepal pageant in 2007, I was waiting for something a little different like the Little Miss World. If I hadn’t been crowned, I would have waited till I could take part in Miss Nepal.
