DRI files cases seeking recovery of Rs 8.1 billion

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) filed cases against different individuals and organizations demanding the penalty worth RS 8.1 billion from them for revenue evasion and abuses of foreign currencies during the fiscal year 2011/12.



Janma Jaya Regmi, director general of DRI informed a meeting of the Revenue Leakage Investigation Committee on Wednesday that DRI filed the cases seeking recovery of Rs 6.08 billion for revenue leakages and Rs 2.02 billion for abuses of foreign currencies. [break]



Chairing the meeting Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun asked border security forces and customs offices to forge strong coordination to control cross border smuggling.



Pun also assured necessary logistics and resources to strengthen the capacity of security force involved in controlling revenue leakage.



Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota informed the meeting about measures being planned by the ministry to control the revenue leakages in coming days. Joint secretary at the Home Ministry Bhola Sibakoti stressed the need to establish the strong coordination among all agencies involved in revenue leakage control.



Officials representing the security agencies demanded the government arrange sufficient resources and logistics to security personnel to enhance their capacity to reign in on smuggling of goods.
