In a press statement issued by the UN on behalf of development partners on Wednesday, they have complained about the delay in developing the legislation for the reconstruction authority and appointing a CEO to look after the body even three months after the international donors' conference and five months after the first earthquake shattered lives and livelihoods of millions of Nepalese people. The reconstruction authority is crucial to effectively oversee a massive reconstruction works.
According to government prepared PDNA, the reconstruction efforts needs around US$ 6.7 billion to give special focus and attention for the timely delivery of quality support to the affected people, notably the most vulnerable, and by applying the "build back better" principle to foster resilience.
The statement adds that it was a collective wish of the international development partners to see the substantial goodwill provided to Nepal rapidly translated into the quickest and soundest reconstruction modality. "We stand ready to discuss how we can jointly support the national efforts and establish an effective mechanism for dialogue and coordination through the International Development Partners Group," the statement reads.
