Speaking briefly to journalists, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli said the parties had shown flexibility from their respective sides while adding that his party had abandoned its earlier stance on the number of provinces to facilitate a consensus. The UML had been taking a stance on minimal number of provinces and had made it clear it could only accept six provinces at the maximum. Oli said a national unity government would be formed by mid July.
On the occasion, Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said the consensus among the parties had propelled the country forward 'politically' and that a constitution was now likely.
When asked if the national unity government would be formed before or after the Congress' General Convention, Deuba said, "That I cannot tell, but a national unity government will be formed."
UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said the political deadlock had been unraveled and that the agreement had paved the way for a new constitution. "We want to give the whole of the country a constitution, and a message to that effect has been conveyed," he said. RSS
