KATHMANDU, Jan 7: A team of police personnel from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Monday busted a racket in the capital that was involved in making forged certificates of different academic levels beginning from School Leaving Certificate.
A group of three persons was arrested from Gongabu along with a significant number of fake certificates, rubber stamps, exam entrance cards and stickers of different universities and colleges. The accused were charging more than Rs 50,000 for each forged certificate depending on the academic level, according to the police.[break]
The arrested have been identified as 22-year-old Bir Bahadur BK aka Bijay Khadka, the mastermind who prepared the fake certificates at the cyber cafe owned by 27-year-old Sagun Kumar Shrestha at Manamaiju-2, and Him Lal Sharma. Preliminary investigation has found that the three were involved in the forgery for the past one year, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ishwar Babu Kakri of CIB.
Police seized fake provisional certificates of the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), 23 exam entrance cards of different academic levels, 33 rubber stamps of different colleges, universities, government and non-government offices, 68 stickers of Teachers´ Service Commission and HSEB from the arrested.
Similarly, 33 signature rubber stamps of officials at the education and sports ministries, Office of the Controller of Examinations, Nepal Rashtriya Secondary School, Rolpa, PTI Secondary School, Jawalakhel, Canvas Int´l College, Section Officer Moti Raj Khadka, fake stamps of Engineer Vijay Khadka, Tribhuvan University Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), chief of records divisions of OCE at TU, Pashupati Multiple Campus, Public Youth Campus, Intensive International Academy, Prime International Higher Secondary School and DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati School were also recovered.
“The accused would put the genuine marks in the passed subjects and set new marks in the failed subjects as per the paid amount,” said SP Karki.
Based on the statements of the accused, the police can track the people who have produced fake certificates for jobs and further studies, he added.
