KATHMANDU, Feb 20: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has initiated investigation into alleged misuse of red passports by lawmakers Gayatri Shah and Biswanath Prasad Yadav.

The anti-graft body took matters into its own hands as neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) nor Parliament Secretariat filed any complaint against the lawmakers even two weeks after the incident became public.[break]

The CIAA has written to the MoFA and Parliament Secretariat, asking them to provide all related documents for further investigation.

“We have sent separate letters to the foreign ministry and the parliament secretariat to send us all documents related to lawmakers Shah and Yadav,” said CIAA´s Secretary Bhagawati Prasad Kafle. “We have asked for the documents to know the details of how the red passports were misused.”

Kafle said they would take further action once they receive all the related documents.

He said both lawmakers will face legal action if they are found guilty of misusing their red passports.

The MoFA had launched an investigation in this connection after Prithivi Chantyal, who had used Yadav´s passport (019893), and an unidentified woman, who was traveling on Shah´s passport (019826), were returned from Abu Dhabi.

“The investigation will begin again. The guilty will be punished,” said Kafle.
