On the occasion, Chief Secretary Paudyal performed Mayurasana (peacock yoga posture)--one of the toughest yoga postures--for long period.
The United Nations has announced to observe yoga on June 21 every year. This year's International Yoga Day is being marked with the theme of 'Yoga for Peace and Harmony'.
Similarly, the government of Nepal has already announced to observe the National Yoga Day on Paush 13.
Talking of the inception of the yoga, it is believed that it began from the conversation between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Himalaya is the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Likewise, yoga is also taken as Nepal's property and heritage as it was started from Himalayas, the most ancient civilisation in the world. Goraknath is considered as the pioneer practitioner of yoga in Nepal.
Yoga guru Raju Adhikari said that the importance of yoga has increased as it helps make people healthy and links heart, mind and society.
Experts opine that performance of yoga in the morning time is better but it could be performed at any time.
Inaugurating the programme, the Chief Secretary expressed confidence that yoga practice would help kept people physically and mentally healthy and maintain happiness, peace, goodwill and prosperity in the society.
Saying that access to yoga should be availed for all to immediately control anger and bad temper, Chief Secretary Paudyal also directed the Health Ministry's officials to bring new programmes in the upcoming budget and establish an independent body to carry out research and provide training.
On the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Health Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, Director General of Department of Health Sinendra Upreti, Chief of Nardevi Ayurveda Campus Dev Rokka, Director General of Department of Ayurveda Devkala Bhandari and others said that yoga is a strong tool to make people healthy.
