KATHMANDU, Sept 8: In order to sort out the problems of the top order of the U-19 national cricket team, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is looking for new faces through trial to pick batsmen for the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers slated for October 14 to 23 in Malaysia.

Nepal, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and the USA will vie for the only spot remaining for next year's finals of the ICC U-19 World Cup to be played in Bangladesh.CAN has called eight new players for the trial for the top order. However, CAN is also looking for some potential bowlers from among them.

Despite finishing second in the ACC U-19 Premier League that concluded in Malaysia on September 3, Nepali openers failed to impress with the bat.

Fourteen regular and four reserved players who played in the league are in closed camp for the qualifiers.

CAN Acting General Secretary Uttam Karmacharya confirmed that some of the new faces have been called for the selection process.

Karmacharya also informed that the final squad will be announced on September 10.

Meanwhile, Nepal's U-19 team coach Jagat Tamata, who had said that the same level of performances from the team will not be enough for Nepal in the qualifiers, added that matches are being organized to select players.

"We are mostly looking for top order batsmen. If new faces will impress us with special qualities, they will be good alternatives for the team. Otherwise we will have to depend upon the same team," said Tamata.

During his arrival from Malaysia, Tamata had said that the openers failed to impress during their tour and was looking for other options in new openers. He had four openers in the team during the league.

Raju Rijal (captain), Aarif Sheikh, Ashish Dhami, Shankar Rana, Prem Tamang, Saurabh Khanal, Sandeep Sunar, Yogendra Karki, Sushil Kandel, Sunil Dhamala, Deepesh Shrestha and Dipendra Airee, Rajbir Singh and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, who were in the regular squad for the league, have been called for the training along with four reserved players Irshad Ahemed, Kushal Bhurtel, Kamal Airee and Himanshu Dutta.
