CHITWAN, July 19: Revenue collection by Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur, has exceeded the annual target by Rs 36 million during fiscal year 2009/10.

The office collected Rs 3.54 billion against the target of Rs 3.5 billion. Lok Prasad Neupane, chief tax officer, said collection of revenue in 2009/10 was Rs 629.3 million higher than what was collected in the previous fiscal year.

Though overall collection surpassed the target, the office could not meet the target on VAT, house rent tax and education tax. The office, however, managed to collect income tax and excise duty as per the target.

The office collected Rs 271.2 million as income tax and Rs 3.2 billion as excise duty against the target of Rs 265.9 million and Rs 2.92 billion respectively. However, the office could only collect Rs 11.7 million as house rent tax, far lower than the target of Rs 23.4 million.
