Twenty-one youth players from Nepal reached Singapore on Saturday to participate in five events. Nepal is competing in athletics, basketball, swimming, table tennis and shooting.
Nepali players are looking forward to better their performance rather than winning medals. Swimming sensation Karishma Karki is looking forward to better her national record. Karishma is participating in 50 meters freestyle while Benin Snensa will participate in men´s 50 meters breast-stroke swimming. Men´s and women´s basketball teams are exited as this is their first outing outside South Asia. Basketball will be played on three-versus-three format. Five players are participating in athletics.
However, Nepali shooting players are without their weapons as Thai Airlines refused to let guns in the plane citing that they sought no prior permission to take the guns. Thai Airlines refused to board in players with two rifles after players and officials completed immigration formalities. Then all the shooting players flew without the rifles.
Travel agent for Nepali team claimed that he didn´t get information regarding the rifles from the official beforehand. Later, Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha promised that two rifles and one thousand rounds of cartridges will be available to the players before the tournament. Sneha Rajya Laxmi and Juhi Chaudhary are two female participants in shooting. Both are participating in 50 meters air rifle category. Asian Youth Games will conclude on July 7.
