BHAKTAPUR, Jan 27: Locals disrupted the Araniko Highway at Kaushaltar Thursday morning after an army truck hit a local woman.

The army truck (Ga 1 Ja 124) was set on fire by irate locals after it hit Manju Silwal early in the morning. [break]"Silwal is currently in observation following amputation of her right leg at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH)," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bhaktapur Shyam Gyawali.

Vehicular movement along the section of the highway was completely halted for a while and a large number of security personnel were mobilized in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

There were only two persons in the army truck at the time of accident and Kaushaltar police arrested the truck driver Arjun Khadka and handed him over to Thimi Police Circle.

"He is still under police custody and has been charged with causing serious injury with a vehicle," DSP Gyawali said.
