KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has instructed the government to appoint a competent person as the managing director of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) through an open and transparent competition.

The constitutional anti-graft body issued such an instruction in writing to the chief secretary, secretary of the ministry of commerce and supplies and the board of NOC after rumors that aspirants for the post are approaching the commerce and supplies minister to bag the post started doing the rounds. The top executive post at the state-owned petroleum import monopolist has remained vacant after the term of previous managing director Digambhar Jha ended over a week ago.

“As NOC is infamous for corruption, we cannot deny the possibility of financial irregularities in the appointment process. Hence, we decided to intervene and issued such an instruction,” said a CIAA official.
