Agitating Madhesi parties allow BFIs to open for five days

JANAKPUR, Oct 13: Keeping in view the cash crunch on the eve of Dashain and Tihar festivals, the agitating Madhesi parties have agreed to allow operation of bank and financial institutions (BFIs) for five days starting Tuesday.

The agitating Madhesi parties, which have been enforcing banda in Tarai districts for last two months, have said that they will let BFIs to operate for five days.Parmeshwar Sah, coordinator of District Protest Mobilization Committee, Dhanusha, told Republica that the committee has decided to allow BFIs to resume their operation for five days on the request of locals. He, however, said banda and economic blockade will continue for other firms and institutions.

"As the daily life of locals has been affected due to our protest, we have decided to allow all BFIs in Janakpur to operate for five days," he said.

Meanwhile, traders, who used to run Dashain market every year, have said that they will not hold such festive market this year 'to express solidarity' with the ongoing protest. Shiva Shankar Sah 'Hira' of Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that they have decided to discontinue the Dashain market this year due to the ongoing protest. Stating that such market used to record daily turnover of Rs 30 million to Rs 50 million in the previous years, he said that they have decided to not hold such market this year to show 'solidarity' with the ongoing protest.
