170 killed in monsoon-induced disasters across Nepal this year

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: A devastating toll from this year's monsoon season this year has left 170 people dead across Nepal. 



The fatalities span multiple provinces, with 54 deaths reported in Gandaki Province, 33 in Lumbini Province and 31 in Bagmati Province. Other regions have also suffered significant losses, including 25 in Koshi Province, 10 in Sudurpaschim Province, eight in Karnali Province, six in Madhesh Province, and three in the Kathmandu Valley.

In addition to the fatalities, the monsoon has caused numerous injuries, with the highest numbers recorded in Karnali and Gandaki Provinces, where 53 and 46 people were injured, respectively.


Rescuers have successfully recovered individuals in various regions, including 49 in Koshi and 28 in the Kathmandu Valley. However, many people remain missing, particularly in Bagmati Province, where 41 individuals are unaccounted for.


The monsoon-triggered disasters have also led to widespread destruction. Floods and landslides have inundated 384 houses, destroyed 270 homes, 102 sheds, 43 bridges, two schools, and two government offices. The disasters have displaced a total of 4,297 families, leaving them in urgent need of assistance.
