13 bus drivers arrested for blocking transportation in Pokhara

POKHARA, Feb 18: Police have arrested 13 bus drivers trying to halt transportation in the city in protest against the issuing of route permits to new a bus service operator.

Kaski Police Chief SP Hari Bahadur Thapa said that police also snatched the keys of 80 buses that were to be used to block the roads.

Pokhara Bus Transportation Entrepreneurs' Committee, enforcing syndicate on city routes, has taken to the street after the Gandaki Transportation Management Office issued route permit to Bindhayawasini Bus Transportation Entrepreneurs' Committee.

Although the government permitted Bindhayawasini to operate three buses in Pokhara city, existing transportation entrepreneurs had vandalized them on Tuesday.

Following the incident, police had arrested Pokhara Bus Transportation Entrepreneurs' Committee Treasurer Pabitramani Adhikari and General Secretary Devi Prasad Kuikel on the charge of vandalism.
